Selecting Use an external mail server with SMTP relay in the Email administration interface displays a section where authorized Fluid Topics administrators can connect Fluid Topics to an external SMTP provider.
This can be useful to:
-
Customize the address of the sender of feedback confirmation emails (the default address is:
no-reply@fluidtopics.net
). -
Offer the built-in feedback service to unauthenticated users, which is only available with an SMTP relay. For more information, see Email service for unauthenticated users.
To configure this connection, it is necessary to define the following fields in Fluid Topics after retrieving the necessary information from the SMTP provider:
-
An email address to display as the custom "From" address.
-
A Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) host (a URL providing the connection between the application and the external server).
-
An SMTP port. This is usually
25
for SMTP,465
for SMTPS, and587
or2525
for SMTP TLS. -
An SMTP transport strategy (SMTP, SMTPS, or SMTP TLS).
-
A username and password for SMTP authentication.
If any of the provided information is not valid, it is impossible to save the configuration. Previewing the configuration by sending a test email can help troubleshoot any issues that may occur.
