The Last update facet, which allows end-users to filter search results by time period, is based on the ft:lastEdition metadata.
There is an exception for Unstructured Documents where the Last update corresponds to the Last publication date.
ADMIN and PORTAL_ADMIN users can configure this facet in the Filters tab of the Search page administration interface.
