In Microsoft Word, users can include elements originating from any Windows application via a dynamic link between Microsoft Word and that application. The resulting element is embedded in a Windows Metafile (WMF).

WMF mainly apply to images, but they can also exist for other content formats.

The Word connector attempts to extract the image from the WMF, and to include it in the topic as a web-compliant image. While these attempts can be successful, they sometimes fail.

When pasting such an image in Word, use the Special Paste option to ensure that the image is correctly extracted from the file.
