Our customers have always been happy with the quality of our search engine, so why did we choose to develop Taruqa? When collecting feedback about the search experience in Fluid Topics, lots of customers told us that they would love to go one step further and provide the same personalized search experience to their customers as what they are accustomed to when using Google. Bringing personalized search results to Fluid Topics became our challenge, and we are proud to introduce Taruqa, our new search engine.

There are two immediate benefits of Taruqa versus our legacy search engine:

  • Taruqa greatly improves search relevance, especially for multi-word queries. It is proven and measurable: our technology scores 25% better in academic benchmarks than classic, open-source solutions such as Elasticsearch and SolR.
  • Taruqa's key function is to provide personalized search results to each user. To do so, Taruqa applies search parameters on the fly in the ranking equation, including users’ search preferences.

As the following image shows, users can define personalized search parameters that Taruqa will always take into account:

Users can define personalized search preferences

Below is a comparison of the effect of prioritizing the results of the Technical Notes category. With no user search preferences, the results are ranked like this:

By simply prioritizing the Technical Notes category, the user gets better search results that fit with their reading preferences:

Search preferences can also be provided by your CRM or any existing system that knows something about your users, such as the products they own.

Taruqa is now activated by default for all new customers. Existing customers can activate it if they wish. Just remember that the search results will be slightly different and that Taruqa returns more results than our legacy search engine.
