SSO stands for Single Sign-On. It is a centralized authentication mechanism in which the client application fully delegates authentication to an external trustworthy service. Delegating authentication to an external SSO provides two main advantages:

  • The client application (for example: Fluid Topics, AFS, and so on) does not handle user password.
  • In an ecosystem of applications based on the same SSO, the user will be invited to authenticate only the first time. The SSO will then recognize it and the authentication from other applications will be nearly instantaneous without password prompt.

To configure an authentication realm, it is necessary to have the ADMIN user role.

For more information about SSO, see the Wikipedia SSO page.

There are multiple SSO protocols, Fluid Topics implements the most common ones.
