The characteristics of the file to be uploaded in the Vocabularies administration interface depend on the type of vocabulary being added.

For this reason, the first step is to determine which of the following types of vocabularies is best adapted to the task at hand:

  • A list of synonyms.
    • This is the best choice when configuring a vocabulary where all terms are in the same language and on the same level (not hierarchical). For example, a list of synonyms can provide the long forms of all abbreviations and acronyms that exist in a corpus. As a result, any user who searches for the long form of a term (for example, "search engine optimization") will find all documentation containing the shorter one (for example, "SEO").
    • The topic Prepare a file to add synonyms provides details and an example.
  • A taxonomy.
    • This is the best choice when separating terms into hierarchical categories. The use cases below provide instructions on how to configure both synonyms and taxonomies.
    • The topic Prepare a file to add a taxonomy provides details and examples.
