By default, Fluid Topics logs a user out of the portal after 30 minutes of inactivity. This is called an "idle timeout." Users who want to access the portal after an idle timeout must sign in again.

In the Authentication timeout section of the Authentication administration interface, users with the ADMIN or PORTAL_ADMIN role can perform the following actions:

  • Increase the duration of inactivity that triggers an idle timeout (30 minutes minimum).
  • Clear the check box to prevent Fluid Topics from triggering an idle timeout.

When a user selects the Remember me check box on the Fluid Topics login page, the user is logged in for 30 days unless they explicitly log out. This 30-day period is the maximum possible duration of a user session, after which Fluid Topics triggers what is called an "absolute timeout."

- Selecting the Remember me check box when logging in keeps the user logged in for 30 days even if that user is inactive and an idle timeout is configured for the portal.

- Modifying the idle timeout duration changes when a user's Fluid Topics session ends but has no impact on the calculation of Analytics sessions.

- A user's activity is based on HTTP requests. Every request resets the idle timeout count.

A Fluid Topics session is not the same thing as an analytics session. The first defines whether a user logged in. The second generates analytics data.
