The following use cases show how to configure content access rules to achieve different objectives.

Use case 1

To let only users who belong to the VIP user group see the documentation about a Premium version of a product:

  1. In the Create rule drawer, select the Version metadata key.
  2. Select the Premium metadata value.
  3. Select the restricted to the following groups button, then select the VIP user group.
  4. Select Save in the Create rule drawer, then select Save in the Access rules administration interface.

Use case 2

To let only users who belong to the VIP user group see the documentation about a Premium version of a product and to keep VIP users from seeing all other documents:

  1. In the Create rule drawer, select the Version metadata key.
  2. Select the Premium metadata value.
  3. Select the restricted to the following groups button, then select the VIP user group.
  4. Create a default group named All except VIP, and add all users who do not belong to the VIP group.
  5. Select Save in the Create rule drawer, then select Save in the Access rules administration interface.

Setting the default group to anything other than Public keeps bots from crawling the portal and impacts the SEO strategy implemented for the portal.

Use case 3

To automatically bind documents with the metadata audience=internal to members of the internal user group:

  1. In the Create rule drawer, select the audience metadata key.
  2. Activate the automatic binding toggle.
  3. Select Save in the Create rule drawer, then select Save in the Access rules administration interface.
